Estimating rock volumes for Airds Bradbury Renewal

Liverpool-based civil contractors TRN Group needed to accurately estimate rock excavation volumes to achieve a competitive tender for the major Airds Bradbury renewal in southern Sydney.

Daniel Palmer from TRN contacted EXDS support, looking for the best way to model the rock strata from the limited borehole information. Rodney Burns from EXDS pointed Daniel to the Settlement option in 12d Model, which can be used to create a rock surface interpolated from borehole logs and the existing surface topography.

Managed by UrbanGrowth NSW, the Airds Bradbury renewal will feature a new town centre, integrated community facilities centre, cycleways and pedestrian links, parks and playing fields and approximately 10ha of bushland area. It is planned that the project will also offer housing at among the most affordable prices in Sydney.
