Survey Procedures 1 – Detail Survey

Description goes here

To complete this course you need to have basic skills in using 12d Model. These will have been gained by:

  • Attend the ‘Introduction to 12d Model’ training course OR
  • Complete the Premium version of our on-line training course ‘Introduction to 12d Model’

On completion of this course you will be familiar with downloading and reducing observations into 12d Model, correcting field errors and using a Map File to apply linestyles and symbology.  You will have created a triangulation and contours of your Survey, and produced a Plot of the finished survey.

Course Outline

This session covers the procedures for taking electronic data collected on a Total Station or GPS Controller, and reducing the data into 12d Model.

Steps covered include reducing the data, correcting miss-coded points and other field errors, manipulating the data into models (layers) with colours / linestyles / symbols applied.

Specific elements covered: –

  • Setup 12d Model to receive data from your instrument.
  • Download data and convert to 12d Models field (neutral) format.
  • Create a (survey data reduction) Function to process the field data.
  • Use a ‘Map File’ to place the data into models (layers) with colours, linestyles, and symbols
  • Apply curve fitting, create pipes.
  • Correct errors in field codes and target heights.
  • Check for crossing breaklines and other irregularities.
  • Triangulate the data and create contours.
  • Create cross sections through the survey.
  • Plot the results and/or transfer the data to an external package.

Throughout the course you will be given exercises to practice the skills that you have learnt, and reinforce the techniques.

This course presents some (but not all) of the concepts and techniques in 12d Solutions’ training modules S01
