The latest news about the industry and companies that use 12d Model. Who’s won what, who’s done what, and what’s in the pipeline. If you have some news – or know some news – about a project, let us know here.

Pacific Highway Detail Design

Arup Parsons Brinkerhoff JV has successfully completed detail highway design on the Woolgoolga to Glenugie section of the Pacific Highway using 12d Model.  This 31km section of duplication on the stretch between Coffs Harbour and Grafton, includes construction of an interchange at Range Road, two new overpasses, and bridges over Corindi Creek and floodplains.

Construction on the section between Woolgoolga to Glenugie is expected to commence in 2015 and be completed by late 2016. The Pacific Highway duplication project is being implemented with $4.1 billion from the Australian Government and $1 billion from the New South Wales administration.  Currently 346km of the existing 677km Pacific Highway between Hexham and the Queensland border comprises of four-lanes of divided road, while 60km are under construction. After completion, the highway will offer an improved link to the F3 Freeway. (Image: RMS)

Berry Bypass

Congratulations to Fulton Hogan Group who have been awarded the contract for the Berry Bypass.  This upgrade of the Princes Highway will be a Design & Construct, with design by SMEC.  The Berry project is a good fit for FHG, as construction will be adjacent to the Gerringong Highway Upgrade that still has a year to run.

RMS seeks interest from surveyors

The trend for the RMS to is outsource survey work to the private sector looks likely to continue. At present they are requesting Registrations Of Interest (ROI) from qualified surveyors.  Registrations close at end of April, and companies that meet RMS requirements would be accepted to the Panel for three years.

The RMS has a huge range of projects, from major highway upgrade work, down to detailed survey for intersection improvements, and the Survey Panel is not just for the big companies. Our understanding is that the RMS is keen to hear from smaller companies for the Survey Panel, particularly if services can be provided in regional areas. Documents can be found on the RMS website by searching for an RFT ID of RMS.ROI.PSCCI-PANELS

Lend Lease Engineering win Pacific Highway Upgrade project

Aurecon and PB will be the designers for Lend Lease for the latest section of the Pacific Highway, let as a design & construct project.  The project involves an upgrade of about 37 kilometres of the Pacific Highway to four lane divided highway from north of the Oxley Highway to south of Kempsey.

PB will be using 12d Model Dynamic Drainage and the 12d Model Culvert Designer for the stormwater drainage design, and EXDS have been assisting in project setup for this first use with PB in NSW.

Overnight success for Daly Smith

Well, nearly overnight. Morriset-based surveyors Daly Smith had never used 12d Model before, but  chose it when they won a tight-timeframe contract to provide detail survey to RMS standards for Worley Parsons in Newcastle. However Daly Smith had 12d Model shipped to them on a Thursday, installed it on the Friday, accessed EXDS support over the weekend and delivered the job to the client’s satisfaction soon after, lead surveyor Andrew McNamara said.

“The support was brilliant, and particularly that it was accessible on the weekend.  Considering we hadn’t used 12d, we were quite a way behind, but EXDS knew we had a deadline, and took over an hour and half and walked us through it. It’s arguable that we wouldn’t have delivered without that kind of support,” he said.

12d Model Dynamic Drainage used for North West Growth Centre.

Congratulations to the team at Cardno in Sydney who have successfully completed the detailed drainage and detention basin design for Precinct 1 in the Marsden Park Precinct of Sydney’s North West Growth Centre.  The Marsden Park Precinct totals some 1,800ha and is anticipated to have a 30,000 residents when complete.

Cardno used 12d Model’s Dynamic Drainage to model the subdivision pit and pipe network inclusive of tiered detention basins and staged outlet configurations.  Marsden Park lies with Blacktown City Council LGA, and despite having used 12d Model for many years, Council had not yet gained experience using Dynamic Drainage.  Tony Ingold (EXDS) and Rob Graham (12d) worked closely with Council to ensure that they were confident with the results produced by 12d Model, and able to review Cardno’s work.

The collaboration on project requirements led to enhancements to the Dynamic Drainage module, in the way that bypass flows and flooded widths are represented. “When it comes to a detailed understanding of our clients’ needs, there is no substitute for local support,” Tony Ingold said. “The ability to work with our clients and quickly implement enhancements to our software demonstrate the benefits 12d Model brings to a project.”
