12d Model training courses are available for a wide range of fields and experience levels.

The best way to learn 12d Model is with an in-house training course, but we also hold external courses regularly in several cities.  We provide computers and all course material. In-house courses can also be customised to meet your particular training needs. By booking a course, you affirm that you meet the requirements for 12d Model training courses.

Introduction to 12d Model

Introduction to 12d Model course

A one-day course for people with little or no experience with 12d Model. This course is also available online.

At the end of this course you will be familiar with 12d Model, able to load and triangulate survey data and create contours for plotting and export to CAD, able to use the more common drafting tools in 12d Model, and will have had exposure to the techniques of surface modelling for design, analysis of surface features, and calculation of earthwork volumes.

12d Model Customisation

Improve productivity by customising 12d Model to match your workflows and presentation standards.

The customisation work done during the three-day training sessions is able to be taken back to the office and implemented. The course is focused on outcomes and at the end of the course the customisation for your organisation should be complete and ready for implementation.

12d Model Macro Writing Course

Enhance the power of 12d Model by building custom routines for your bespoke needs.

This is a two-day course for experienced 12d Model operators who wish to enhance workflows and productivity by creating and using macros written in the 12d Model Programming Language (12dPL).  You do not require previous programming experience.

12d Visualisation

A one-day course to create realistic rendered 3d images and ‘fly through’ movies of their designs.

The course will cover techniques to create realistic rendered images of the proposed work during the design phase, then adding the adjacent terrain, street furniture, vegetation and backgrounds. Movies are created showing cars and trucks driving on the road.

12d Model BIM Course

This one day Digital Engineering course teaches 12d designers how to create and manipulate BIM elements in 12d Model.

We will cover the creation of 3d solids from the parametric design, the addition and manipulation of metadata, and techniques for collaboration with other disciplines.

Introduction to 12d Field

A one-day course covering techniques for setting up and using 12d Field.

In this course you will learn the processes for using 12d Field for setting out points, strings, batters, tins, crossfalls and crowns, and for doing basic pickup.

12d For Engineering Surveyors

A one-day course for Engineering Surveyors covering techniques for using 12d Model to complete basic design requirements volume calculations and conformance reporting.

In this course you will learn how to use the tools available in 12d Model to deliver the work required of an on-site Engineering Surveyor.

Survey Procedures

A two-day course in the use of 12d Model for Detail Survey and Setout.

Learn the procedures for taking raw field data and generating fully annotated plots of the survey, including contours, then generate data files and plots for setout.

Design Basics

A two-day course in the use of 12d Model for road and intersection design.

Participants will learn the process for creating road designs in 12d Model, including basic intersection design, adding superelevation and widening, creating bus bays and the like. They will be familiar with the techniques for creating long and cross sections drawings, and \’Chaining\’ design operations together so that designs and drawings can quickly be revised.

Design Features

This is a two-day in-depth course in the use of Super Alignments as Control Strings (Road Centrelines).  It explores the concepts of Parametric Design, and the techniques for creating and edited Super Alignments both using I.P.s and using Fixed and Floating elements (Parametric Design).

Advanced Civil Design – General/Subdivision

A half-day course that explores  the tools in 12d Model for the automatic creation of a network of roads in an estate (land division or subdivision) and introduces the idea of \’Continuous Design\’. 12d Model\’s \’Create Roads\’ option will automatically create road strings, cross sections, kerb returns, and cul-de-sac heads for a layout of Local Roads. The \’Continuous Design\’ functionality allows the road network to be completed quickly and effectively.

Boxing – Subgrade Creation

A half-day course covering creation of subgrade and pavement layers in 12d Model.

In this course you will learn how to use 12d Model’s boxing commands to create subgrade and pavement layers as part of the design process, and onto design cross sections.

Highway Design Using Speed Tables

A half-day course covering the use of Speed Tables in 12d Model to apply curve widening and superelevation, without the need for complicated MTF modifiers.

In this course you will learn the process for applying superelevation and widening to a road using Speed Tables.  You will also cover the techniques used to create and edit the Speed Tables, and to manually override the values set by the table.

Flood Modelling

A half-day course covering techniques for using 12d Model to generate HEC-RAS projects, and to display the results of the HEC RAS analysis in 12d Model.

In this course you will learn the process for generating a HEC RAS project from data prepared inside 12d Model, then reading the results of the analysis back into 12d for display and plotting.

Stormwater Drainage Design

For designers who wish to use 12d Model for the design and analysis of Stormwater Drainage Systems.  Participants will learn use of 12d Model for creation of stormwater drainage networks, and for ensuring that the network does not clash with other utility services. Participants will be familiar with the Hydrological and Hydraulic models available in 12d Model, and have designed and analysed the network using both Rational and Ilsax hydrology and HGL check hydraulics.

Road Flow – Flood Modelling for Civil Designers

Civil and Highway designers can check how stormwater flows across their design, using Road Flow. Road Flow uses the TUFLOW 2D Modelling engine integrated into 12d Model to quickly and accurately determine flows and velocities across the design surface.  Problem areas are quickly identified and can be corrected.  Videos showing flow across the surface can be used for presentation to a non-technical audience.

2D Flood Modelling using TUFLOW

2D Modelling using the TUFLOW engine can be done entirely inside 12d Model. This course is for Water Resource engineers with experience in flood modelling who wish to increase their productivity by streamlining the modelling process inside 12d Model.
