Civil Design Features – Parametric Design using Super Alignments is a course about the use of Super Alignment for geometric design of road centrelines. We focus of the power and flexibility of ‘Fixed and Floating’ elements (parametric design) and the use of ‘Computators’ to reference one element of another.

Prerequisites

  • Attend the ‘Civil Design Basics 1 – Fundamentals’ course OR
  • Experience gained in the workplace in the use of 12d Model for creating and editing I.P. based Super Alignments. If you claim workplace experience, we will ask you to complete on-line exercises to demonstrate your competence.

Outcomes

After completing this course you will have an understanding of the concepts of Parametric Design, and will have learned the techniques for creating and edited Super Alignments both using I.P.s and using ‘Parametric Elements’. You will be familiar with the techniques for ‘Computating’ Super Alignments where one SA string references another for its position.

Course Outline

Super Alignments can be created using Intersection Points (I.P.s) or Parametric Elements. Usually referred to in 12d Model as ‘SA’s, the Super Alignments are intelligent objects that can reference each other so that when one changes, the other follows.
The course explores the concepts of Parametric Design, where elements are either Fixed, Floating, or Free, before moving on to defining ‘Computators’, which link the SAs together, and Chains which allow linked SAs to be updated in one operation.
